History
Founded in 2004 by Darryl Clugston, D. Clugston began as a small custom builder constructing homes in Durham and Fuquay-Varina. Over the past two decades, the firm has evolved into a multidisciplinary practice providing site planning, building design, aquatic design, and construction services for developers throughout North Carolina.
Our team brings together building designers, aquatic designers, project managers, estimators, and construction professionals to support projects across the Triangle, Triad, Charlotte, and Wilmington regions. This integrated structure allows us to guide projects from early feasibility and planning through design, permitting, and construction.
The firm expanded its capabilities during the late 2000s by entering the commercial construction and amenity development market for national builders. In 2012, D. Clugston established an in-house aquatic division to provide specialized pool design and construction services. Two years later, the company invested in a dedicated design division, strengthening coordination with civil engineers, consultants, and development teams.
Today, D. Clugston provides design-build and consulting services for developers, civil engineers, and architects, working across multiple delivery methods including Construction Management at Risk, Cost Plus, Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), and Lump Sum contracts.
With a focused team of professionals and a commitment to long-term partnerships, the firm maintains a 95 percent repeat client rate. Our work is grounded in practical problem solving, thoughtful design, and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
